About Us

Who We are

Paterson Park Primary School is a Seventh-day Adventist primary school located in Orange Grove, Johannesburg. The school is under the Northern Conference of South Africa which is part of the Southern Africa Union Conference which is under the Southern Africa Indian Ocean Division. It was established in 1932 as the Johannesburg SDA Church School, in 1953 the school moved to Orange Grove and became known as Paterson Park School……..

Paterson Park Primary School is an English medium independent school, operating in conjunction with the Department of Education of South Africa.  It is registered with the Gauteng Department of Education, Umalusi and the Department of Social Development as a non-profit organisation. The school is accredited by the Adventist Accrediting Association, and Umalusi (Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training – accreditation number 17 SCH01 00277).

The school exists to educate primary school-aged children (grades R-7) to the best of our capacity.  The school’s values are articulated in the school’s Vision and Mission Statements.  We believe it to be our privilege and responsibility to provide Christian education for our children and those of the community; to provide an atmosphere which will facilitate their moral and spiritual development; to encourage their creative ability and the ability to think clearly and logically; to teach them the responsibilities and privileges of good citizenship and service to God, to their church, to their country, and to their fellow humankind.

The school provides a warm, caring environment where all children can learn to relate positively to each other, staff and other adults. We recognise the uniqueness of each individual; and because we accept the Bible as the Word of God, Paterson Park School desires to follow the counsel therein by offering its students a programme that strives for balance among the spiritual, intellectual, physical, and social aspects of life.  Since humans were originally created in the image of God but have lost that perfect nature through sin, it is the goal of true education to assist youth in experiencing restoration of divine character by learning more of Christ.  Through a correct knowledge of God, fellowship with Him in study and service, each student is encouraged to develop a likeness of his or her Creator and form characters fit for heaven. We believe “it is the work of true education … to train the youth to be thinkers, and not mere reflectors of other men’s thoughts… True education means more than the pursuit of a certain course of study.  It means more than a preparation for the life that is now.  It is the harmonious development of the physical, the mental, and the spiritual powers. It prepares the students for the joy of service in this world and for the higher joy of wider service in the world to come.” (Education, pp. 13-17)

Paterson Park School is Committed to deliver a holistic education which concentrates on developing their pupils’ spiritual, cognitive, social, emotional and physical abilities in an inclusive, non-discriminatory milieu
